Thermostatic Radiator Valves

Thermostatic Radiator Valves

KEYMARK Certification: Delivering Confidence and Quality

Efficient heating systems are critical for reducing energy costs and minimizing environmental impact. Thermostatic Radiator Valves (TRVs) play a key role in maintaining comfortable indoor temperatures while conserving energy. These valves automatically adjust the heat supply to ensure stable room temperatures according to the user’s preset preferences.

By integrating TRVs, individual rooms can be heated based on their unique usage and requirements. This approach maximizes the use of available "free" energy sources, such as solar radiation and the residual heat from appliances, while reducing unnecessary energy consumption.

Trust is Good - CENCER or KEYMARK is Better!

  • Energy Savings: Reduce energy use and costs while contributing to a sustainable future.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to European energy efficiency and heating regulations.
  • Proven Quality: Certification backed by in-depth third-party testing and continuous auditing.
  • Consumer Trust: Confidence in reliable performance, long-term durability, and safety.

By choosing KEYMARK-certified Thermostatic Radiator Valves (TRVs), users can trust that the products meet rigorous performance, safety, and durability standards set by the European Committee for Standardization (CEN), while also investing in reliable, sustainable heating solutions that comply with the latest energy efficiency requirements and ensure high-quality performance.

Testing Bases

Thermostatic Radiator Valves are tested and certified in compliance with the following standard and certification framework:

  • EN 215 : "Thermostatic radiator valves – Requirements and test methods"
  • CEN KEYMARK Scheme Rules for Thermostatic Radiator Valves.

Testing and Assessment

The certification process involves:

  • Independent Product Testing: Testing is carried out by accredited laboratories recognized by DIN CERTCO.
  • Factory Inspection: Before certification, the manufacturing facility undergoes an inspection by an independent third-party inspector to ensure compliance with production quality standards.
  • Neutral Certification Assessment: Products that pass the tests undergo an impartial assessment by DIN CERTCO to ensure compliance before certification is granted.
  • Mark of Distinction: Successfully certified products are awarded the KEYMARK certificate.

Once certification is obtained, DIN CERTCO issues an certificate with a unique registration number (011-6Txxxx) for clear identification. The KEYMARK certificate is valid for 5 years. Additionally, a corresponding ID number is assigned to the company to ensure traceability and verify their certified manufacturing processes.

Third-party monitoring

Ongoing Quality Assurance: an independent third-party certification body, DIN CERTCO

To maintain the integrity of certification, all TRVs undergo strict third-party surveillance:

  • Type Testing: Conducted every four years to ensure continued compliance with the latest standards.
  • Annual Control Testing: Verification of product characteristics determined in type testing.
  • Annual factory inspection with a verification of the manufacturer’s quality assurance systems.

These processes ensure that KEYMARK-certified products consistently meet the highest standards, fostering long-term trust and delivering value to stakeholders.

What changes result from the new certification scheme (status: 2019-12)?

For many years, the planners and installers domestically and in other countries have been relying on the KEYMARK certification for thermostatic radiator valves in accordance with DIN EN 215 stands internationally for a durable and undisturbed operation. However, even good things can get better. The responsible standards committee DIN-Arbeitsausschuss NA 041-03-60 AA Thermostatische Heizkörperventile (SpA CEN/TC 130/WG 12) within the DIN Deutsches Institut für Normung e. V. has revised DIN EN 215 . The valid version was published in December 2019. It resulted in the following main changes in comparison with the previous version November 2007 in addition to an editorial revision.

Overview of the main changes

  • New CA value calculation according chapter A.7
  • New sensor temperature at the minimum and maximum setting without the minimum limit at max. 12 °C according chapter 5.3.4
  • New resistance of the temperature selector to a torque. The torque was reduced from 8 Nm to 7 Nm.

We have incorporated these changes together with our experience exchange group CCC3 into the KEYMARK certification scheme “Thermostatic radiator valves" (edition: January 2020).

It is possible to access this as a PDF document on our website at www.dincertco.de . You will also find the current application documents for the certification including the valid schedule of fees as well as all valid certificate holders.

Overview of the main changes

  • The new CA value must be calculated and published by the manufacturer.
  • The CA value must be disclosed to the responsible testing/inspection authority before the next inspection.

What concrete changes will there be for you?

  • The new certification scheme is to be applied bindingly for all new thermostatic radiator valves to be tested for which the KEYMARK is to be applied.
  • All existing KEYMARK certificates, which are based on the current certification scheme (as of: 2014-01) must be converted to the new certification scheme no later than 2021-01. On application, however, this can also be done beforehand.
  • Inspection, modification, or extension of KEYMARK-certified products must be performed in accordance with the new certification scheme.
  • Please ensure that the test and inspection report also refers to the valid certification scheme incl. issue date.
  • Furthermore, in order to minimize the processing time, the testing laboratory should send you and us all the necessary reports directly as a PDF file.

We are ready. Our experts know the changes in detail and are happy to answer your specific questions.
