The basis of our tests is the NF T51-800 standard "Plastics - Specifications for home compostable plastics". If your product successfully passes the relevant tests, you may use the "DIN Tested - Garden Compostable" mark on the relevant products and in your corporate communications.

When certifying for the markets in Australia and New Zealand (Australasia) according to the AS 5810 standard, DIN CERTCO cooperates with the Australasian Bioplastics Association (ABA) and the certification system there.

Specifically for the British market, we cooperate with Renewable Energy Assurance Limited (REAL) and the certification system there according to NF T 51-800 and AS 5810.

The testing requirements ensure that the product is safe for home compost. The tests according to NF T51-800 include:

• Chemical characterization
• Complete biodegradability
• Disintegration
• Plant compatibility (ecotoxicity test)
• Earthworm toxicity test (for AS 5810)

Thanks to the modular certification program, the scope of testing can be minimized if necessary, for example when using already tested and registered materials and certified additives.

The certification of products that enter the market, such as trash bags, is valid for five years. For materials (e.g. granulates) and intermediates (e.g. films), certification is valid for six years. In both cases, you as the certificate holder may use our test mark for marketing and advertising purposes.

We continuously monitor the conformity of the certified products. In this way, we ensure that the initial components specified in the application have remained unchanged.
