Exports and approvals to India

Export to India

India is an interesting market that is growing steadily and is becoming more and more relevant for exports from Germany. For a secure market entry, it is necessary to recognize the various regulatory requirements and to have the necessary tests and certifications carried out. Here we give you an overview of the tests and certifications we offer for your market access to India.

Below you will find information on the various approvals for your products.

Electrical safety - the Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS)

Initiated and supervised by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY ), a large number of products are subject to mandatory registration with BIS through the Compulsory Registration Scheme.

This includes IT equipment, but also LEDs and microwaves.

The products must first be tested locally in an accredited laboratory according to Indian standards and then registered with BIS. The registration is valid for two years and can then be renewed. During the registration period, market surveillance is carried out in India.

TÜV Rheinland holds the accreditation in two laboratories in India to carry out the necessary tests for you. This makes us a reliable partner and we are happy to support you on your way to market entry in India.

Radio approval - WPC certification

The Wireless Planning & Coordination Wing (WPC) determines this mandatory approval procedure for all wireless devices that are not connected to the public network in India.

Equipment Type Approval (ETA) does not require local testing in India, but test reports must be submitted by accredited test houses. ETSI standards are accepted. Furthermore, the approval is only issued to Indian companies, therefore a local representative is required.

The authorisation may then be appliedto the Authority and shall remain valid after issue until the product undergoes a change.

TÜV Rheinland has many years of experience with this procedure and will support you in checking documents, preparing the necessary forms and actually applying for certification with the authorities.

Approval for telecommunication equipment - the TEC certification

Testing and certification (MTCTE) by the Telecommunication Engineering Center (TEC) will be mandatory from April 2019 for products that can be connected to the public telecommunications network in India.

The products must be tested in accredited laboratories in India to meet the essential requirements for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), electrical safety, efficient use of the frequency spectrum and other technical requirements.

Afterwards the registration takes place with the authority TEC on your Indian representative / importer, which is valid 5 years, and allows the import of the equipment to India.

TÜV Rheinland is accredited for on-site inspections.

With us, you have a strong partner at your side to carry out this new process together and successfully.

Approval for automobiles and their components

The Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR) determine the Automotive Industry Standards (AIS), which prescribe mandatory certifications for automobiles and their components.

The products must be tested according to Indian standards and then certified by accredited local authorities before they can be placed on the market in India.

The process includes a factory audit and Witness testing or testing in the local authority laboratory.

TÜV Rheinland has been working closely with the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) for a very long time. This enables us to ensure comprehensive and very accurate preparation and support during the audits and to guide you safely through the certification process.

Toy tests for India

Since 2017, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has determined that toys imported into India must first be tested according to Indian IS standards.

The applicable standards are IS 9873 and for electric toys IS 15644.

TÜV Rheinland is accredited and has a fully equipped laboratory in India to carry out the tests for you and also to issue a declaration of conformity.
